Byron D. Johnson

Legacy Scholar Advisory Board Member

Byron is a Texas Tech University graduate, earning degrees in business management and business marketing. As a sales executive for Enterprise Holdings, he is responsible for negotiating contracts and developing marketing plans for his region. As a child growing up in the DHA community, Byron and his family lived in public housing and later received a housing choice voucher that helped them eventually purchase their home.

Byron’s childhood experiences with the foundation shaped who he has become today, planting the seed that a college education can, in fact, lead to economic independence. While Mr. Johnson dreamed of playing professional football, his time at Texas Tech proved that he had a skill in connecting with people. His degrees allowed for that skill to flourish, but he credits the foundation’s various programs in preparing him with the ability to communicate with people of different ethnic and economic backgrounds.

To future foundation scholars, Byron says, “never give up! No matter how difficult things become, you have to persevere and complete the task in front of you.”

To the foundation’s leadership, Byron adds, “I am proud of what they are doing. Please keep doing it. The work they do speaks volumes. It is immeasurable.”

When Byron isn’t working, he enjoys spending time with his wife and their 21-month old son. He also enjoys playing golf and traveling. Byron continues to give back to the foundation by chaperoning college visits, attending the CRYSTAL Awards, and donating funds for scholarships.
